17 Courses You Need to Take this Summer

The summer months are a great time to learn new skills. This post has my favorite courses for virtual assistants, including blogging, how to find clients, Wordpress and more. Click to learn new skills to get you ready for the fall.

School might be coming to a close for the kids but it’s the perfect time to learn new things and take a course.

Many stay-at-home moms have a little more flexibility in their schedules (a break from busy school days!) and can carve out some time for themselves.

And if you learn something new over the summer, you’ll be ready to start working from home in the fall when the kids go back to school. Cool, right?

What would you do with extra income in your household?

Tell me in the comments, ok? I’d love to hear your plans.

What I look for in a course

I’ve taken a lot of courses in my work from home journey -- some good, some - not so much.  Here are some things I look for when evaluating a course:

  • An established instructor. They need to have a website (minimum) and social media proof (street cred) to back up what they’re teaching.

  • Free updates. Stuff changes often, the courses should be updated to reflect current changes and updates made available to students.

  • Multiple payment options. Listen, I don’t have an extra $1000 lying around to plunk down on a course. But if a course costs $1000 and the investment looks to be a good one, I’d like to have the option to break up the payments over a few months, ya dig? If you’re a new virtual assistant/freelancer, this is important. You’re in the business of making money in the beginning, not throwing it all around.

  • Great customer service. Sometimes you need to reach out to the instructor and it sucks when you don’t get a response to your question or concern. Customer service is important and is a deal breaker for me.

I’ve hand-picked some of my favorite courses. These are the ones that have passed my smell test -- great customer service, a decent price point where it’s affordable in one payment or has multiple payment options, and established instructors.
