Why Your Virtual Assistant Business Needs a Blog

If you’re a virtual assistant, you’ve got a lot on your plate.  You’re doing client work, marketing your services, hanging out in Facebook groups and updating your social media profiles, updating your websites.  All good stuff.  All of these things are important to your business.  But here’s the big question…

Are you blogging regularly?  No?

Now that’s a shame.  If you’re not including blogging as part of your social media content strategy, you are truly missing out. 

Let’s take a quick look at a week’s worth of analytics from my website. 

 

Notice something?  A good chunk of my traffic comes from my blog page and blog posts.  I provide services like everyone else.   But what ultimately draws folks to my website?  Consistent useful content.  

So, if you’re not currently blogging here are three reasons why you should rethink that:

You want to show your expertise.  

Listen, I’m not saying you’re not good at what you do.  You wouldn’t be in business if you weren’t.  But you have a lot more virtual credibility if you can actually show your stuff.  If you’re a Facebook whiz, write a blog post about how to create compelling content.  If graphics is your thing, do a tutorial on how to use Canva or Photoshop.  Show folks what you can do and you’ll come out looking like the expert you are.

You want people to get to know you.

  It’s a big virtual world out there and to stand out, you’ve got to let people into your world.  I’m not saying tell all your business but it wouldn’t hurt to share a little with your audience. 

Share some tidbits about yourself, like your favorite TV show or hobby, something quirky about yourself.  By doing that, you’re showing readers that you’re actually human and guess what?  People like humans and they will want to get to know more about you, including your services.

You want to drive traffic to your website.

I’m just going to say it:  without a blog, your website is like a stop sign — it just sits there.  Add a blog to it and you’ve got a big ol' blinking traffic light that's sure to draw attention! There has to be a reason why folks visit your website other than your services.  Even with the most compelling copy on your service page, your website traffic will not reach its full potential.   

But Regina, I don't know how to start a blog!
