4 Of the Worst Social Media Mistakes and How to Fix Them

Social media. You either really love it or - well, you know. Yep, we know it's important for our business. We've got to put ourselves and our brand out there. Hustling, marketing - social media is key. But there's a right way and a wrong way to show your stuff to the online world. Let's talk about a few mistakes folks are making on social media and how to fix them. And if you stick around until the end, you'll get my latest freebie - a six-month marketing calendar.

Mistake #1: Not Having a Strategy

Posting to your social media accounts all willy nilly with no strategy - big no-no. A strategy can help you plan out your goals and objectives. Without one, you're just throwing spaghetti to the walls and hoping something sticks. Plan your content in advance and track results.

Mistake #2: Improper Use of Hashtags

Too many hashtags - ooh, my eyes! When I see a string of hashtags longer than the actual post, I cringe. A couple of hashtags relevant to your content is enough. Also, do a little research using a tool like Hashtagify before slapping up a hashtag. The hashtag you're bent on using may mean something totally different. 

Mistake #3: Too Much Promotion

If eight out of ten posts are promoting your new product or service, you're selling too much. You run the risk of alienating your audience and even worse, scaring them off to the point they leave. And once they leave, there's a good chance they're not coming back.  For every ten posts, post one about your business. Your audience will appreciate you. 

Mistake #4: Going Ghost

Your audience wants to hear from you, ok? They want to know about YOU. They want to engage and interact with your brand. Respond to your audience, answer their questions and interact with them and you'll have a dedicated fan base.
