[CASE STUDY] How My Pageviews Grew Over 300% Using Pinterest

I'm one of those people who has had a Pinterest account forever and just pinned stuff I like. Every time I wanted to find an idea for a party or a new pair of shoes, I went to Pinterest. I never in a million years imagined Pinterest could be used for business.

Boy, was I wrong.

Pinterest is the perfect platform for business and if you're not using it in your business - well, friend, you are truly missing out on an awesome opportunity to grow your email list and finding clients. 

What is Pinterest?

For real, you don’t know what Pinterest is? Let’s change that right now! Pinterest is a beast of a visual search engine, that’s what it is. Here’s how Pinterest works:

Let’s say you want to learn how to bake a chocolate cake (hey, don’t judge!). A rich, gooey, triple-layer chocolate cake. You can taste it already, can’t you?


Sweet Mother of Pearl, look at all those recipes!


Now to pick one of these. Hmm, which one should I choose? I’ll pick the first one because the pin title is “The Most Amazing Chocolate Cake.” Because, hey, I want to make an amazing cake, right? Once I click the image (called a pin in Pinterest land), I get this:


Wow! Here’s the entire ingredient list. That makes it easy for me to see if I have these ingredients on hand before I even get all excited about making the most amazing chocolate cake. But now I need to know EXACTLY how to make the cake so I want to click the MAKE IT button to take me to the website.


And there we have it. We’ve now landed on the Stay at Home Chef’s website with the amazing chocolate cake recipe with over 33,000 shares!

While I’m here, I’ll check out more of her content because that one initial pin has now sucked me in. I might even sign up for Rachel’s email list and check out more of her recipes while I’m there.

All because of one click of a pin.

Now, do you see the magic of Pinterest? Do you see how Pinterest can spell more traffic to your website?

Let’s break it down further:

  1. You have an ideal client and you know what their pain points are. For example, your ideal client is a virtual assistant wanting to learn how to find clients.  So, you write an amazing blog post solving that problem and you create a pin to go along with it.

  2. Your ideal client is on Pinterest and boom! They spot your fabulous looking pin and they click through to your website. Oh yeah, while you’re writing that blog post, make sure to have something to offer your reader - some type of freebie. Folks like value-packed freebies!

  3. They read your amazing post and they’ve just gotta have your freebie that you mention in the post. They sign up to your email list to get more of your content. Yay!

  4. Now it’s time to treat your reader like the VIP they are: regularly send them useful content, invite them to exclusive groups, send them special offers to services and products - you get the idea.

  • Wrote descriptions rich in keywords. Pinterest is a search engine so you want to make sure you include keywords in your pin descriptions that your ideal reader will search.
