Two of my boys are members of a Bible Quizzing team with our local ministry. As I'm writing this, the team is on a three-hour trip to the next meet. For the last several years, they've studied the Gospel of Matthew and the Book of Acts. Once a week, they meet with the Bible quizzing coach and practice. If you've never been to a Bible Quiz meet, you're missing a treat. On top of the competition with other quiz teams, there's a worship time and lots of opportunities to make new friends.
I love watching the boys study Scripture together and using the Gospel in their everyday lives. Watching them grow in the Lord has made me so happy and along the way, they've learned how to pray and take the time to speak to Him regularly. I know I can't be with them 24/7 so the best thing they can have is God's Word. That's been my prayer:
"Lord, please let the boys not only learn Your Word and understand Your Word, but teach them how to use it in their daily lives."
If you want to get your kids in the habit of prayer, start off with some verses that are easy to memorize. I'm a big believer that the short verses are just as impactful as the longer ones, sometimes even more so. Here are ten verses that we absolutely love and have been easy for the kids to remember. Try writing a verse on a card and slipping it into your child's lunch or posting on the fridge for everyone to see.
Here you go!
Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
Matthew 28:20 – I am with you always.
Ephesians 4:32 – Be kind to one another.
Psalm 145:9 -The LORD is good to all.
1 John 3:23 – Love one another.
1 John 4:19 – We love because he first loved us.
John 11:35 – Jesus wept.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing.
